Tiny Talk with Demi Jenkins
Color, style, and charisma is what really drew me to Demi’s instagram feed when it came across my FYP. She is magnetic in her videos and truly oozes joy and confidence when she skates. I loved hearing about her background and what keeps her going.
Tell us who you are and what you do ?
My name is Demi Jenkins and I'm dopamine dressing, dancing, hula hooping and roller skating content creator from Brisbane, Australia!
How did you first get into Rollerskating and Hula Hooping?
Since I was a kid I have been dancing. I went on to study it and work as a professional dancer for many years. In 2016, I saw a girl hula hooping at a festival and she taught me a move called the 'isolation'.
Since that moment, I began learning all things hoops, slowly adding multiples over the years. Roller Skating is a more recent discovery. In 2019 I saw a beautiful pair of skates online and bought them for myself as a birthday gift. I have not looked back. I challenged myself in 2021 to roller skate everyday for a year and that's how Peachy Skaterr was born!

Describe your style in a few words.
Dopamine, 60s inspired, playful, unapologetic
Do you have advice for anyone who wants to take up rollerskating? Any special equipment or recommendations?
Ohhh I get so excited for new roller skaters! I always say "you never get to fall in love with skating twice" so you should really enjoy that learning process for all the successes and fails because the journey is truly magical. Try get on your wheels for regular short sessions and once you are confident that you are going to stick with it, you can upgrade your skates.
This makes a world of difference but is expensive! My first pair of upgraded skates were a Moxi Jack boot with Roll line plate and Moxi Fundae wheels.

Tell us about the Purple Rabbit Show and your inspiration for joining it?
It is a magic show featuring an eclectic bunch of 'misfits', who in the storyline have been banned from all other shows cause of their chaos. My magician role is the 'Hip Magician' obviously alluding to my hula hooping act.
I have loved joining this show with the fresh challenge of creating a new hoop act! Its been fun to add in all the tricks I have been working on in the last year. I am able to lean in to all the confidence I have gained since my previous act.

What is it like to work and live on a cruise ship?
I've gotten very used to it now, which makes it a lot easier. In this specific role, we have a lot of time on our hands so having other projects to sink your teeth into is very useful. My favourite part has to be all the amazing destinations we get to visit and working with such a beautiful team of artists that truly become like family as we do most things together. One of the downsides is definitely missing my family, but I occasionally bring them on for a cruise.
Do you have any daily rituals or activities you do regularly to stay creative and productive?
Yes! I have had some creative projects like knitting or crocheting previously, but recently I have been brainstorming ideas for my new Youtube channel! I also dabble in a bit of digital drawing and am still creating content daily for my Instagram.
What are you obsessed with?
I'm obsessed with finding my new creative voice outside of short form content. I can feel a big change coming up in the way I present my art. It is still uncovering itself, but the process is exciting!
Ohh and another thing is Notion (a task management software)- it has been helping me stay on track with all these tasks. It took me a while to get my head around its capabilities but its starting to work for me now.
